"(Name)!" Your moirail knocked on your door. Since you didn't answer after ten minutes of screaming for you, she shrugged and walked away. Currently, you were out exploring behind your hive, resting on a log, sweat rolling down your face. "Oh Gog, it's hot out here..." You whined, taking another swig from your water bottle. The sun was high in the air and the canopy of leaves above you were the only things keeping you from burning to a crisp. You were human, visiting your friends here on Alternia for a bit. Plus, exploring!

A groan from close by made you jump. No one in their right mind would be out at this time of day. "Hello? Who's there??" You walked closer to the sound, spotting two grey wrists clasped in bright red cancer shaped cuffs. You gasped, pulling him out of the sunlight. A nasty sunburn hand already formed on his skin, blistering was also visible. He groaned again as you moved him, his shackles making him even heavier. You huffed and used your last bit of strength to pry open his cuffs.

Snatching your bag from behind you, you pulled a spare water from it and tipped it so it trickled down his throat. He swallowed, greedily drinking the rest of it. You pet his hair, a habit from being a babysitter back home. "Hello... Are you okay? I'm (Name) by the way..." He coughed, propping himself up shakily. "Thank you, (Name), for saving me from burning to ashes in the sun. I'm very grateful." He looked up at you with bright red eyes. "You're... human..." He was slightly awed. "Y-yeah..." You blushed, looking away. "And you're a troll."

"The Signless, also called the Sufferer..." He rolled his eyes at the last name, rubbing his raw wrists. "Why did you have shackles?" You questioned him. He looked slightly uncomfortable. "Uh, well, you see... maybe I can explain later... I think we should get indoors before the sun gets any higher in the sky..." He stood, leaning on a tree for support. "Here, let me help." You took one of his muscular arms and wrapped it around your shoulders, supporting him. He limped along with you as fast as he could.

The smell of smoldering fabric filled your nostrils and you coughed, picking up your pace. At last you reached your hive, tumbling inside the back door. The Signless fell from your shoulder and caught himself on your black couch. "Nice place for a human." He breathed, gasping for air. You panted, dropping your bag and grabbing another water bottle. "Thanks... Here." You handed him the other water and sat down on your couch, breathing in the cool air.

A sudden depression in the cushion signaled the adult troll was seated next to you. "So, tell me why." He closed his eyes, mumbled something under his breath. You took this time to take in his appearance.

A black cloak surrounded him, now with many holes that were still sizzling in it. The bright red of his... pantshirt? You guess that's what you'd call a pair of pants that also doubled as a shirt. Stubble was visible on his square jaw. His pointed ears were bright red on the ends from sun burn, along with his flushed cheeks. Two nubby horns poked out from his hood, oh were they so adorable! You mentally squealed, but kept your cool on the outside, waiting for him to start his story.

"It's all because of my blood color... The caste system... I'm below every body. I have bright red blood, mutant blood, and I am a possible threat to the high bloods. They try to find every reason to kill me... I managed to escape this time, still bound. I ran until the sun came up and then passed out from lack of sleep. I didn't have time to find shelter, just barely making it to the woods behind your hive..." You nodded, listening to his words with peaked interest.

"Ah, sorry to burden you with this... it's really my problem, not yours." He sighed. "No! It's really no bother at all, I was enjoying your story..." You smiled kindly at him. He smiled slightly in return. "This time... my matesprit had just dumped me, in fear I'd get her culled. I was so devastated that when the blue bloods came to get me, I never even fought back, until I realized... I never really could love a girl who betrayed me. I mean... my own matesprit... how could she...?"

He bowed his head, tears streaming down his face. You crawled over to him, lowering yourself in his lap and gently papping his face. "Shhhhhhhh~" You soothed softly. "Don't think about it, Signless... You said so yourself, you never really could have loved her... had an honest relationship with her..." You hugged him tightly. He awkwardly hugged you back, his stubble scratching your cheek. Giggling, you pulled back.

"That sounded just like my ex boyfriend... he dumped me because he thought I'd ruin his reputation... what a douche... I'm over him now, but it had me pretty messed up when it happened." The Signless stared at you, his blood pumper speeding up as he watched your glossy lips move to form your words.

"Uh, Signless?" You waved a hand in front of his face. "Oh! Yes! Sorry, I kind of spaced out, I'm terribly sorry." His kicked-puppy face that he gave you left you melting with feels. "It's okay, Signless." You smiled. "So, tell me about Earth." He said.

You both spent hours sharing stories about your lives, some happy, some funny, some heart breaking, some angering, some just plain weird. Gossiping was another one of your favorite things to do. Eventually, you fell asleep in his lap, clutching his burnt cloak. He smiled at you. "Oh, (Name)... Where have you been my whole life?"

He kissed your forehead, knowing he was helplessly, head over heels, in love with the human in his arms. Maybe, one day, when the worlds were at peace, you two could be together forever.
